Property Taxes
What you need to know to ensure property taxes stay current.

Property Taxes: Every homeowner pays property taxes to their municipality. You can always refer to your mortgage commitment to confirm if your taxes have been set up as ‘lender-paid’ or ‘borrower-paid’.
-
- If lender-paid – Your property taxes are currently set-up to be paid thru your mortgage. You will make monthly payments to them for the property taxes payable on your property so that they may pay the taxes when they become due. These payments will be made on the same dates that your regular mortgage payments are to be paid. For instance, if you were on a monthly payment plan each payment will consist of 1/12th of your estimated property taxes for that year. The monthly payments should enable your mortgage provider to pay all taxes on or before the annual due date for the taxes. More info on this will also be reviewed with you when you sign at the lawyer’s appointment before your closing date.
- If borrower-paid – Currently you are responsible for the property taxes and are required to submit it to the city yearly when they are due. If you prefer you can have the City collect the taxes each month through their Property Tax Monthly Payment Plan.
